Journey

Simon Base Kalema, professionally recognized as Symon or SBK, is a Ugandan cultural polymath whose artistic contributions span music, cinema, comedy, and graphic arts. Embedded in a household where music was second nature, thanks to his father’s connection with Afrigo Band, Kalema drew inspiration from his roots and challenges, including personal losses that fortified his dedication to the arts. He launched his music career in 1991 as part of the Perfect Generation formed at Makerere College. The group caught the public's eye with 'Kakokolo,' paving the way for Kalema's vibrant solo career marked by 'Mukwano Muzibu' and collaborations with icons like Ragga Dee. The early 2000s saw Kalema expanding into acting and comedy, making significant strides with The Ebonies and Fun Factory. His dramatic flair was recognized with awards at the UCC Uganda Film Festival and IKON. Known for his graphic production works during his stint with The Ebonies Management, Kalema embodies a creative spirit that merges kwaito, afrobeats, and other genres seamlessly, enhancing the rich tapestry of Ugandan entertainment.
